Literary Listography

I love lists, and I love bookish lists even more, so I’m a sitting duck for books like this one: “Literary Listography: My Reading Life in Lists,” which was an impulse buy (ooh, shiny!) at the bookstore. I’m filing this under shelf candy, or books that will look good on my bookshelves.

The Listography books (by one of my all-time favorite publishers, Chronicle Books) are a set of list-making journals by the website listography.com. There are Listography books for various interests (music, travel, food, film, parenthood, friends, love, etc), and for bookish folk, there’s “Literary Listography.”

Mark My Words!

I haven’t blogged about bookmarks in a while, so let me show you my latest stash: Mark My Words bookmarks, a present from a friend who knows I collect bookmarks (thanks Tin!). As luck would have it, they’re by Chronicle Books, one of my favorite publishers and stationery makers — they come up with the most thoughtful (and drool-worthy) products!

She gave me two sets: Mark My Words for Cooks and Mark My Words for Kids. I’ve been trying them out for the last month or so.

I just drew the winners on Random.org. The top 3 names on the List Randomizer each win one set of Chronicle Books’ Sign Language Vintage Alphabet stamps.

Each stamp set contains 28 foam-backed rubber stamps (A-Z, the sign for “&” and “I Love You”), a pamphlet explaining the sign language, an ink pad, and a cleaning sponge inside a translucent plastic box.

Giveaway: Sign Language Vintage Alphabet Stamps

I can never go into a bookstore and come out empty-handed. Even when I challenge myself to hold off on buying books, the stationery junkie that I am can’t help wandering in the supply aisles and I end up spending a small fortune on stuff I tell myself I’ll eventually find use for. Just the other day I got myself a binding machine, but I’m getting ahead of myself; that’s another story! Haha.

Postmark Paris

When I was young, it drove my parents crazy that all their letter envelopes had ragged rectangular tears around the top right corner. I was the likely culprit, as I was the only one in the house who collected stamps. I didn’t get a lot of mail as a kid so of course I was always into the family mail, tearing into my mom and dad’s letters, their business correspondence, and holiday greetings from relatives all over the world. I also enjoyed going to the bookstore during weekends to buy sets of stamps (I don’t think bookstores have them anymore today) with my weekly savings.

I forgot about stamps until recently, when I was reorganizing my displaced stuff that survived the flood and found my old stamp albums with my old collecting still safely intact. Best of all, I had a thick wad of stamps to add to my collection, as for the past year that I’ve been on BookMooch, I’d been mindlessly clipping out stamps from the inordinate amount of packages I’d been receiving and I now had a whole ziplock bag filled with stamps!
