Reading something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue
Just wanted to leave a note that all is well — thank you for all the emails! I have spent the last few weeks reading for the Children’s and Young Adult Bloggers Literary Awards (Cybils), where I am a second round judge for graphic novels. I read 14 graphic novels for the Cybils — half for middle grade and half for YA (photo finish!), and our committee submitted our decision this morning; so now we all just have to wait for the awards announcement this weekend.
NYT Bestselling YA author E. Lockhart was in the country this weekend on her book-signing tour, and I was glad for the opportunity to meet her, because her books had been keeping me awake in the middle of the night over the past week.
E. Lockhart’s list of bestselling books include the acclaimed “We Were Liars,” the Printz Honor book (+CYBILS Best YA Novel +National Book Award nominee) “The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks,” “Fly on the Wall,” “Dramarama” and the Ruby Oliver quartet: “The Boyfriend List,” “The Boy Book,” “The Treasure Map of Boys,” and “Real Live Boyfriends.”

It's National Children's Book Day once more, and I'm celebrating with this post on Candy Gourlay's award-winning book, “Tall Story,” and a giveaway: a signed copy of the book!
I've mentioned Candy Gourlay more than once in this blog, but I realize I've never featured her novel, “Tall Story” and I was thinking about today's NCBD (and the hours ticking until it ends) and figured this was the best way to catch up on the festivities.
Published in 2011 by David Fickling books (Philippine edition by Cacho Publishing, distributed by Anvil Publishing), “Tall Story” has bagged the SCBWI Crystal Kite Awards for Europe in 2011, the Philippine National Children's Book Prize in 2012, and has been nominated for numerous other awards.

Finally, here are the winners of my Scorpio Races giveaway.
I apologize for the delay, I know you guys have been waiting for this, but I’ve had a lot to catch up on at work and I’ve resumed my tutoring (5 times a week) after the holidays, so before I knew it, January came, and is now nearly over!
Also, choosing the winners (for the non-raffle part) was tough. I don’t normally hold giveaways where I have to choose the winner because it’s never easy to pick out a winner out of all the entries. I usually get Randomizer to keep it well, random, but for this particular giveaway, I thought a thematic question was more significant given the themes of the novel.
