Sunday Giveaway: The Scorpio Races

As promised, my new giveaway is Maggie Stiefvater’s YA novel The Scorpio Races.

I loved The Scorpio Races (read my review here) and I’m happy to share this book with you. Thanks to Scholastic, not just one, not two, but THREE lucky readers get the chance to win a hardcover copy of this awesome book.

The Scorpio Races

I can’t really say I’m all that fond of horses, although I’ve read my share of horses when I was younger, likeĀ  Black Beauty and The Summer of the Dancing Horse. I also haven’t had a lot of exposure to equines, other than the requisite carriage rides in Vigan or Old Manila, and long-ago pony rides in the highlands. In fact, of late, the closest I’ve gotten to these four-legged creatures is My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, to keep up with my *ahem* brony friends.

I’ve read Maggie Stiefvater‘s werewolf novels Shiver and Linger, and while they did not make a paranormal romance fan out of me, I thought they were among the better-written books in the genre. But when I first saw her latest novel, I honestly did not know what to make of it. Mainly because of the nondescript brown cover — you all know I judge a book by the cover! — and well, you’ve got to admit there is something off-putting about a story featuring flesh-eating water horses! Nevertheless, I decided to give it a chance.

Happy New Giveaway!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

I’m greeting you just now, as my sister came home from Singapore for the holidays and we’ve been traipsing (read: eating and shopping) all over the metropolis, before she goes off on assignment in Prague.

Anyway, in the next couple of weeks, I’m wrapping up up my 2011 reads — I’m compiling this year’s book tally, and I’m happy to report I read well past last year’s total count! I am also finishing up one last bunch of reviews for you guys: some of the books I read in the last couple months are among my best reads for the year — must-reads, I promise! — so watch out for the reviews! I’ve also been hedging on reviewing my worst read for the year, so you’ll get to read that, too.

But that’s not all — because my blog is on its fourth year running this 2012 (I can’t believe I’ve been blogging since January 2009!), and because January is my birthday month, I’ve got a bunch of giveaways lined up for you guys. Starting with this one — up for grabs are two Le Petit Prince desk planners!

Bookish Christmas

Happy Christmas, book lovers! I hope you’re enjoying the holidays with your loved ones.

Mine’s especially bookish this year. I didn’t have time to put up a tree (remember last year’s HP Christmas tree?), but a friend (thanks, Carl!) got me an ornament tree so I put it to good use on top of one of my bookshelves — I’ve always wanted a Nutcracker Christmas tree!
