Teatro Olivia!

I know I owe you a lot of posts (Lumina Pandit, Book Bazaar loot, and a whole lot of reviews) but I can’t resist sharing today’s wonderful bargain bookstore find!

My hands were literally shaking as I took it down the shelf, I held my breath as I inspected the contents, and I was hugging it all the way to the counter!

Voila! It’s Teatro Olivia!

If you’re not familiar with Olivia, she is the cute little pig by Ian Falconer (read my review), and one of my favorite children’s book characters.

I was wandering aimlessly at the bargain bookstore today while waiting for my officemates buying lunch when I came across this “book.” It was up on a high shelf, and I tiptoed to get it, and when I figured out what it was, my jaw just about dropped.

Loooooooook!

It’s a theatre playset!!! The drawer was a bit damaged (nothing that can’t be repaired) but all the pieces are intact, and I got it for a song, too!

There’s a fold-out theater with a 3D proscenium, a stage, and galleries, as well as a playbill that gives the synopses of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, and Puccini’s Turandot.

Then, there are paper dolls of Olivia (playing Princess Turandot, Juliet and Odette/Odile) and Ian (playing Prince Calaf, Romeo, and Prince Siegfried!), and matching (removable) 3D backgrounds for each play!

Here’s Swan Lake:

And here’s Romeo and Juliet:

And here’s Turandot!

Fabulous, isn’t it? I was planning on blogging about this after dinner tonight, but I lost track of time while I was taking the pictures — I’ve been playing happily for a couple of hours!

This really made my day.

  1. Hello! I do remember Olivia. Thanks for sharing the beautiful pictures from the book. I’m giving away a few free copies of my own project, WHEN RADIO AND POLYGAMY COLLIDE . . . Jitters-A Quirky Little Audio Book. Would you like one? If so, please send me an address and I’ll get one in the mail today. Happy Thanksgiving!

  2. That is the most wonderful find! Again, you do discover the best things. You should have the music playing in the background. I had it in my head while looking at the pictures :)
