Reading something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue
I haven’t blogged about bookmarks in a while, so let me show you my latest stash: Mark My Words bookmarks, a present from a friend who knows I collect bookmarks (thanks Tin!). As luck would have it, they’re by Chronicle Books, one of my favorite publishers and stationery makers — they come up with the most thoughtful (and drool-worthy) products!
She gave me two sets: Mark My Words for Cooks and Mark My Words for Kids. I’ve been trying them out for the last month or so.
Here are another couple of books I had reserved for Halloween: The Last Apprentice: Curse of the Bane, and The Last Apprentice: Night of the Soul Stealer, books 2 and 3 of The Wardstone Chronicles by Joseph Delaney.
I discovered this series by chance — I randomly got it off Bookmooch a couple of years ago (mainly because and read it for Halloween last year. I liked the first book so much, and as luck would have it, the series is available here (P289 each at National Book Store!) so I immediately put the next two books on my Christmas wishlist last year, and got them via the Flips Flipping Pages Kris Kringle. And here came Halloween again, so I broke out books 2 and 3!
I read the first two Trese books a couple years ago, right after getting them signed at the Visprint booth at the 30th Manila International Book Fair back in 2009, where I got them signed by creators Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo.
It wasn’t until the third volume won the National Book Award for Graphic Literature that I was able to get myself a copy, but I hadn’t had time to read it yet. It’s been tucked away on my shelf since, shrink-wrapped, because I was reserving it for Halloween. I finally got to break open the seal a few weeks ago, when I sat down for an interview with Budjette and Kajo!
Finally, I finished checking, tabulating and double-checking the entries to The Son of Neptune giveaway, which got an astonishing total of 106 entries!
So I’ve been over at Random.org, and drew the ten lucky names via the list randomizer.

Because our house is scheduled for renovation by next year, I’ve been exploring shelving options, as I’ve sequestered asked for the upstairs hallway for floor to ceiling shelves for my books.
Got lots of interesting ideas not only for the shelves, but for the house plans as well, at “Jak en Poy: Bato, Gunting, Papel, Atbp.: An Interior Design Exhibit of Sustainable Proportions,” the graduation exhibit of the PSID Advanced Class of 2011, which runs until Nov. 6 at the former Super Sale Club, SM City North EDSA.
In “Jak en Poy,” sustainable interior materials, such as stone, steel, concrete, paper, glass, wood, bamboo, rubber, plastic, clay and mud, are applied to interior design booths that evoke different moods and styles, conscious of the concept of designing for a better world.
Some booths featured bookish spaces, so naturally I took pictures to show you. Check ’em out!
