Another bunch of bookmarks!

A few months back I spotted a bunch of bookmarks at my favorite bargain bookstore, and practically bought out the stock. It also gave me a hankering to start collecting bookmarks, so now I’ve got a small collection going.  (Ironically, I just keep them in a fancy box and don’t actually use them as bookmarks because I know I’ll end up losing them!)

A couple of weeks ago, to my delight, the bargain bookstore had a fresh batch of Antioch bookmarks (the tasseled ones!) on hand, so I got a whole new bunch of them!

Here they are:

Dan Brown’s no rocket scientist but I still like the sheer popcorn entertainment. I couldn’t resist these Da Vinci Code bookmarks with the Mona Lisa and the Vitruvian Man:

I also got a couple of Eragon bookmarks, one based on the book cover and another on the movie:

And some Narnia movie bookmarks with Aslan and Jadis (because honestly I enjoyed the movies more than the books) with gold and silver Narnia medallion accents:

I also picked this beautiful unicorn bookmark:

And a Lord of the Rings movie bookmark (with Viggo Mortensen as the very hot Aragorn) with a replica of the Ring — it even has the Elvish inscription!

The best one (for me!) is a bookmark I discovered at the bottom of the tray, a single Harry Potter bookmark that I didn’t have yet (squee!) — a hippogriff bookmark with a matching charm!

This collection gives me a new high — and it’s getting to be an obsession. Will have to keep hunting down more of these things!

  1. Hey I was just thinking about starting a collection too :) Normally I use old tickets as bookmarks. But I’ve been traveling lately and was trying to figure out what I could pick up from each place.

  2. @Anna- Love the tassels too!

@Jeannie- Haha… I got the whole bunch for less than P150 (around $3) … Any bargain hunter takers out there?

  3. @kubi- I do use all sorts of stuff, including receipts and tissues and clothing tags hahaha! That’s coz when I finish books I forget the bookmark inside! So the bookmarks going into my collection are often mainly for collecting :)

    1. Iya — there are more at Book Sale MCS. I just got one of each kind — there’s a tray full of them near the counter!

  4. What bookstore is this? And do they have a website?

I have an old version (from 1987) of the unicorn bookmark and I’ve been looking everywhere to buy another one just like it but I can’t find it anywhere! This is the first site I’ve even seen the design shown and to see it so recent made me really hopeful!

I absolutely love my unicorn bookmark and hate to use it because I run the risk of losing it or damaging it, but I seem to have issues with other bookmarks actually staying in my books and holding my place.

  5. Hi Alyshadeshae. It’s a bargain bookstore chain here in the Philippines. When I go back to the store I’ll check if they still have one of these.

  6. Haha! It figures that the one place my bookmark exists is in an entirely different country!

If they do have another one, though, I will happily paypal over the money for the bookmark and shipping. :-)

  7. Hey uhm. Where can you recommend I buy cheap books with good titles and still in good condition? It’s okay if it’s those bargain or second hand ones. I’ve been buying at Booksale lately but I can’t seem to find anything there that’s really cheap. I mean some are not really in good condition, even the covers are torn out already.

Anyway, may I also ask where can I find book accessories which are not really that expensive? Like those booklights, bookmarks, etc etc. When I mean those bookmarks, not those typical cardboard with sttring on the end booksmarks. lol. you know what I mean.. lols

    1. Book Sale is still my best bet. They say books are cheaper in Recto (haven’t been) but I heard that lately few titles are available and condition not so good. Evangelista St also has some secondhand books, I haven’t been there as well.

Diplomat Bookstore has cheap mass market paperbacks (P25 below) but mostly old titles and movie tie-ins.

Booksale has some cheap tasseled bookmarks but only a few branches. Book lights too, but I don’t know if they’re used, but quite cheap (P80-P150).

But for book lights I suggest investing in one (there’s a good selection at National Book Store and Fully Booked, from P400 – P1000) if you plan to use it daily, so you can get a warranty. Or you can get an LED hand-pump flash light at tiangges or 168.

  8. where do you find these bookmarks?!! my friend gave me the unicorn and the narnia ones :) i want the others!!

      1. wai thanks!!! did i send you HP6 yet? i got one set books A and B for you, sayang only one set was for sale though, ill include some jap bookmarks for you next time too :)
