Sans spoilers, of course.
- It’s set 19 years after Deathly Hallows. The epilogue in Deathly Hallows is set 19 years later, when Harry and Ginny send off Albus Severus on the Hogwarts Express. Presumably, The Cursed Child is set immediately after this.
- Harry is an overworked Ministry of Magic employee, with three kids. He does not get along with Albus Severus. The official summary reads:
It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children. While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.
- The new book contains the rehearsal script in two parts. The book will be released worldwide on July 31, in hardcover. A definitive (final) edition, with the changes made after the initial run, is set for publication in 2017.That said, the months ahead will be quite expensive for Harry Potter fans (empty those Gringotts vaults, Potterheads!), with the script book of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and the illustrated Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets both coming out later this year; and in 2017: the 20th anniversary editions of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (4 covers, one for each house); a new edition of Fantastic Beasts (apparently with new content from JK Rowling); and new editions of the Harry Potter schoolbooks.(Multiply by 79 languages – can I pay in leprechaun gold?!?)
- Potterheads unite on July 31. The true test of fandom. After all this time.Scholastic already marked the 10-day countdown with a #MuggleMob at the company headquarters in New York City.
The #Mugglemob showcased fans – Scholasticemployees and their children — reading passages from their favorite Harry Potter book. The fans then went on to share the magic of Harry Potter by handing out their Harry Potter books to random passersby.
Release parties are scheduled all around the world, including Manila!
Pre-order is already ongoing at National Book Store (bit.ly/NBSCursedChild); I’ll post details on the release party soon!
