The back-up plan

Raaats, my internet at home has been down for three days. And in three days, I’ve finally finished the new Thursday Next novel (you’ll read the review soon enough), whipped up a batch of pesto that will probably tide me over until Easter (ahh, long story), made a lot of bookmarks (I had a lot of spare time), watched the quake coverage on CNN and NHK (oh, my heart breaks for Japan!), and finally watched a bunch of movies that I’ve been meaning to watch for months.

But not being able to blog makes me antsy, and I didn’t want a repeat of the stress I went through during that nasty plugin incident. I’m not sure when our internet service will get restored, seeing as my mom is getting our landline changed  and it’s currently out of commission (sheesh, you never know how useful a landline phone is until it’s gone) until the new one gets set up.

Today I finally cracked and got myself one of those broadband kits, exactly for times like this (blogging emergency?), when I need to blog and there’s no connection available (short of hacking into your neighbor’s wifi, but well, when they’ve gotten smart enough to figure out how to set up a password, that’s not really an option anymore… oops, did I say too much?!?), and some establishments charge an arm and a leg for wifi (and I can only drink so much coffee and I’ll bounce off the walls). I’ve also been meaning to get myself one of these thingamajigs, because I frequently find myself out of town and there isn’t always a reliable connection when I need one.

So there you go, I’ve taken the broadband out for a test drive with this post — it’s working pretty fast, although I’ll have to test it out on a peak hour (it’s 1 am, of course it’s fast!).  I’ll have new posts up later; I really can’t afford more blogging backlog!

  1. I can relate with you on that one blooey. Yeah what happened with me then I had like an internet withdrawal syndrome, I decided to use our Globe plug in however the sim was already expired and I bought a new one and have it top up. Whew talked about a tiring day!

  2. I have a back-up connection at home, too. Which reminds me, I need to call and have our internet transferred soon. I hate it when I can’t go online especially when I know it’s there, but it’s just not working properly.

On another note…I haven’t read the latest Next book yet. Gasp. o_O

    1. Super handy to have back-up. Our office internet went down almost the same time and I made good use of the USB broadband!
