Squee — new toys!

I have a growing collection of bookish toys — I love toys based on books and book characters! I always tell myself I’m hypothetically saving it for future kids I may (or may not) have, but (not so) deep down, I know I’m really collecting them all for myself!!

I’m glad I took advantage of the holiday and went bargain hunting today — because I got two new toys for my collection: a classic Winnie the Pooh bear by Gund (which from the previous post you can probably tell I’m a big fan of), and a Madeline doll — both for ridiculously low prices!

The Pooh Bear is exactly how I like it — the classic Pooh based on E.H. Shepard’s charming illustrations. It comes with a little book, Winnie the Pooh’s Friendship Book, in the perfect size for the plushie to “read”!

And here’s Madeline, based on Bemelman’s illustrations (not the Disney adaptation), authentic from the school dress to the yellow hat and right down to the appendectomy scar (in the first book, she gets appendicitis)! I love that the clothes are entirely removable (shoes are painted on though), which means I can dress her up in new outfits in the future!

I’ll have to find display cases for them, but I already know they’ll look great on my shelf!

  1. Oh wow, that is a great idea! I’m also thinking of collecting Madeline books soon, main reason because I love the cartoons and we share the same name, different spelling though. Nice blog! Oh and thanks for the idea! :)

    1. Hi Madz — The Madeline books are easy to collect; there are only 6 original Madeline books by Ludwig Bemelmans — Madeline, Madeline’s Rescue, Madeline and the Bad Hat, Madeline in London, Madeline and the gypsies, and Madeline’s Christmas

There are four others — Madeline in America, Madeline Loves Animals, Madeline says Merci, and Madeline and the Cats of Rome, but they’re already by Ludwig Bemelmans’ grandson, John Bemelmans Marciano.

    1. Just about the books I really love, Madz :D

The first 6 are easy to find in the bargain bookstores. The newer 4, I haven’t seen much of, even in the local bookstores :)

  2. Adorable! Where did you find them? And were there any Madelines left? I give Madeline books to my goddaughters, so this would be a great accompanying present. Lately I’ve been giving the books together with DVDS of the cartoon versions.

    1. The Madeline at Rob Place branch, but it was the only one there, and the box is battered… The Pooh from the SM Manila branch. If I see any more Madeline dolls I’ll text you :)
