Are you ready for this?

The Manila International Book Fair is set on Sept. 15-19 at the SMX Convention Center! Woot! Woot! (*happydancing*)

Mark your calendars, bibliophiles (and start saving your shopping money), as the biggest and longest-running book fair in the Philippines turns 31 this year. For three decades now, MIBF has been a one-stop shop for local and foreign publishers, wholesalers, retailers, book lovers and collectors, librarians, authors, and publishers’ representatives. It has also continuously contributed to the reading awareness of the Filipino by being the venue for book launches, dialogues with readers, and other book-related activities that reach out to a wide audience.

MIBF showcases the largest and most varied collection of literature, textbooks, educational supplements, general references, religious and inspirational titles, self-help books, management books, Filipiniana, coffee table books, popular novels, children’s books, art books, graphic novels, rare and hard-to-find titles, magazines, audio and e-books, multimedia, teaching supplies and services, publishers’ technology, and travel materials.

Students can avail of books at lower-than bookstore prices, while teachers and school administrators can compare offerings from various exhibitors and get the best prices for bulk purchases.

Youngsters can look forward to story-telling sessions, puppet shows, reading-related contests, robotic demonstrations, a parade of exhibitors’ mascots and cosplayers of their favorite book characters. Classes can also enlist in special seminars and workshops available round the clock at the Manila International Book Fair, while the young and old alike can enjoy mini-concerts or meet-and-greet sessions with well-known and up-and-coming authors and illustrators.

  1. Woohoo! Is there any way this could come sooner? Oh, wait. On second thought, it’s great that it’s still at least a couple of months away. More time to save up for what is sure to be a bibliophilic shopping spree. Hope to see lots of cool book-loving folks as well. Thanks for the heads up, Blooey!

  2. Do you go this event every year? I went back in 2007 and I only got books from the National Bookstore stall and they were only 20% off so it’s just like a usual sale.

    1. Hi Chachic. Yup, I go to the book fair every year (since 2005).

In the recent book fairs, the National Book Store booth has had great bargain selections on top of the discounted books. I’ve also had great finds from other booths like Anvil, A Different Book Store, Bookmark, WS Publications, Visprint and other exhibitors.

More than the shopping, it’s also a great way to meet authors and illustrators and join the fray of book lovers buzzing all over the place :D

I’ll be posting a rough guide to the Manila International Book Fair around opening week, maybe a week before, when I get the floor plan :) Will alert you when it’s up.

  3. Ah. This reminds me why September is one of my poor months.

It’s sad I won’t be able to go to the Book Fair on the weekend schedule, though because I’m off to Cebu! But that means I’m going there on the weekday, so I guess less crowds? :D

Time to list all the books I’ll be looking for there! :)

    1. While there are more bargains over the weekend (especially during the last day), weekdays are actually better for leisurely shopping — the crowd gets crazy over Saturday and Sunday and sometimes you have to fight tooth and nail to get to the edge of the bargain bin, then queue up to the cashier! :)

I’d recommend the weekend more for sightseeing — book launches, contests, activities and such, although of course I always eat my own words and still end up shopping over the last two days of the Book Fair.

  5. Hi! Nice blog!
Church Strengthening Ministry will be selling books, audiobooks and videos all for P99 each! These include new and best-selling titles. There will also be new books to be released by Gary Chapman (author of Five Love Languages) and other local authors like LJ Salceda.

You can check out http://www.csm-publishing.org for more info.

  6. Hiyee, last year was my first MIBF and I must say you have help us a lot for the infos you’ve shared. I got the most out of it really! Thanks a bunch!
Just want to ask if you know the best booth to look for Paulo Coelho books. Didn’t see any of his books last year. I guess I was looking for the wrong booth.
    thanks a bunch again!
