Another book I’d probably have no earthly use for

farts, silent but deadly fart, spotter’s guide, crai s. bower, travis millard, chronicle books, types of farts

Sometimes when I’m bored I go on a mooching spree with my BookMooch points and end up with all sorts of books. This is how I came to get ahold of a copy of Farts: A Spotter’s Guide (book #106 for 2009).

farts

I didn’t remember mooching it, and then the mail came and there it was!

The book is such a hoot, we had a lot of fun with it at the office before I took it home to share the laughs.

It’s actually a board book with die-cut pages that discusses ten different types of farts (with scientific name!) and how to differentiate them: the Seismic Blast, the Silent but Deadly, Blowing Smoke, the One That Got Away, the Flight of the Buttock Bees, the Poof, In Between States, the Sleeping Dog, the Long Good-bye, and the Aftershock.

Each spread covers a type of fart with a detailed description, a comic illustration by Travis Millard and other identifying features such as field marks, voice, habitat and range:

The best part about this book is the sound panel (shaped like a gassy cloud) at the side, which produces 10 different fart sounds!

It’s another useless book for my growing collection of useless books and I love it! And it’s not actually useless — my dog actually hunts for the sounds whenever the buttons are pressed. And I think it’s now my younger brother’s favorite book.

Haha, here are some photos. I wish you could hear the sounds as well — the book’s a riot!

  1. @Sheila – they’re points on the international book trading site BookMooch (http://www.bookmooch.com). When you give away books you don’t want, you earn points that you can use to get the books you want from other people :)
