Happy New Giveaway!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

I’m greeting you just now, as my sister came home from Singapore for the holidays and we’ve been traipsing (read: eating and shopping) all over the metropolis, before she goes off on assignment in Prague.

Anyway, in the next couple of weeks, I’m wrapping up up my 2011 reads — I’m compiling this year’s book tally, and I’m happy to report I read well past last year’s total count! I am also finishing up one last bunch of reviews for you guys: some of the books I read in the last couple months are among my best reads for the year — must-reads, I promise! — so watch out for the reviews! I’ve also been hedging on reviewing my worst read for the year, so you’ll get to read that, too.

But that’s not all — because my blog is on its fourth year running this 2012 (I can’t believe I’ve been blogging since January 2009!), and because January is my birthday month, I’ve got a bunch of giveaways lined up for you guys. Starting with this one — up for grabs are two Le Petit Prince desk planners!

I did some shopping for FFP Christmas Party (Reading Rampage!), which was, aside from a bookish ball, also hinged on our book for the month, a personal favorite: The Little Prince. I got a couple extra planners for my blog, because I thought I would share the fun we had at the party through this giveaway.

Each desk planner features art from The Little Prince, printed on heavy-grade kraft paper, with detailed embellishments.

Lookee!

ringbound, with garter belt and brass button

nicely embossed!

and on the title page too!

inside: to do list

flipside: customizable calendar

It’s undated and customizable so you can start filling it in any day of the year. And it has a built-in stand (see topmost photo), so even if you already have a planner, you can always keep this on your desktop!

The Mechanics:

1. The raffle is open to all blog readers with a Philippine mailing address.

2. To enter the raffle, leave a comment in the section below with your favorite quote from “The Little Prince”

for example,

Grown-ups never understand anything by themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them.

3. Entries will be accepted until Tuesday, January 10, 2012, 12 midnight, Manila time

4. One raffle entry per email addressper person (in other words one entry per person). I will reply to your entry in the comments section to validate it, and I reserve the right to weed out suspicious entries.

5. Two lucky winners will be drawn via Random.org — first two on the randomized list each win one of these two planners. Winner will be announced here within three days after the end of the entry period. Random.org screenshot will accompany the announcement of the winners.

6. An email will also be sent to the winner to request his or her (Philippine) mailing address. The prize will be packaged securely and sent via a local courier, unless I’ll be seeing the winner anytime soon (e.g. FFP book discussion, FBB meetup, quiz night, geek fight or whatnot).

The raffle officially opens as soon as this post is up.

They’re really pretty planners, so good luck! And don’t worry, if you don’t win this time, I have more giveaways lined up this month!

  1. “Grown-ups never understand anything by themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them.”

I don’t want to become “one of them!”

  2. Grown-ups like numbers. When you tell them about a new friend, they never ask questions about what really matters. They never ask: “What does his voice sound like?” “What games does he like best?” “Does he collect butterflies?”. They ask: “How old is he?” “How many brothers does he have?” “How much does he weigh?” “How much money does his father make?” Only then do they think they know him.

  3. I also like Charmaine’s quote, but this is another one I like:

“It is the time you have wasted for your rose that makes your rose so important.”

    Happy New Year, Blooey!

  4. THE PLANNER IS SO CUTE, BLOO! I wonder where’d you find that planner in Singapore?

Same with Charmaine: “It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; What is essential is invisible to the eye.”

This is the quote I fell in love with when I was in High School (which is at that time, I have no idea about the Little Prince book — I know, what a shame!). Every time I read this quote, there is a tug in my heart. <3

    1. Ishay, locally, in the most unexpected place! :D

I first read The Little Prince when I was in third grade, but I only really appreciated it when I was in high school! Our whole class was “tamed” by our lovely Literature teacher

  5. This quote reminds me that every person can prove himself as long as he believes on what he is capable of…

“I don’t believe you! Flowers are weak creatures. They are naive. They reassure themselves as best they can. They believe that their thorns are terrible weapons.”

  6. “Then you shall judge yourself,” the king answered. “that is the most difficult thing of all. It is much more difficult to judge oneself than to judge others. If you succeed in judging yourself rightly, then you are indeed a man of true wisdom.” :)

  7. “All men have the stars but they are not the same things for different people.”

…. and the quotation goes with examples of different people’s different stars ^_^ I so love The Little Prince ^_^

  8. “Has the sheep eaten the flower or not?” And you’ll see how everything changes. . . . And no grown-up will ever understand how such a thing could be so important!

i really love this part. this encourages us to explore ourselves just as he has explored himself. As we close the covers of The Little Prince, we are encouraged to think about what we have just learned. <3

hope you love this too ^_^

  9. Then you shall judge yourself,” the king answered. “that is the most difficult thing of all. It is much more difficult to judge oneself than to judge others. If you succeed in judging yourself rightly, then you are indeed a man of true wisdom.

Love this quote and btw great new year giveaway…

  10. I could always relate to this..

“Grown-ups never understand anything by themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them.”

    Happy new year blooey.^^

  11. OH GOSH I FRIGGING LOVE THE LITTLE PRINCE AND SUPER HAPPY THAT YOU’RE HOLDING THIS GIVEAWAY!! Omg this is so awesome 8D I even got the original french version!

“Mais les yeux sont aveugles. Il faut chercher avec le cœur.”
“But the eyes are blind. One must look with the heart…”

  12. “But on your tiny planet, my little prince, all you need to do is move your chair a few steps. You can see the day end and the twilight falling whenever you like…
“One day,” you said to me, “I saw the sunset forty-four times!”
And a little later you added:
“You know–one loves the sunset, when one is so sad…”
“Were you so sad, then?” I asked, “on the day of the forty-four sunsets?”
But the little prince made no reply.”

    sali ako blooey! haha ^^

  13. “Here is my secret. It is very simple: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”

  14. My favorite —
“I wonder,” he said, “whether the stars are set alight in heaven so that one day each one of us may find his own again…”

    Happy New Year.
