Catch children’s illustrators group Ang Ilustrador ng Kabataan (Ang INK)’s two exhibits this month: the ongoing INK on Paper, which runs until June 30 at the Prism Gallery, Legaspi Village, Makati; and Alterno, which runs from June 26 to July 3 at Shangri-la Plaza Mall.

Liesl and Po


Lauren Oliver, New York Times bestselling author of books Before I Fall, Delirium, and Liesl and Po, is coming to the Philippines this March to launch her newest book, Pandemonium.

I’m scheduled for an interview, so I’m reading her books in preparation, starting with her children’s story, Liesl and Po.

The Red Necklace

I enjoyed Sally Gardner’s I, Coriander (winner of Nestle Smarties Gold Award in 2005), a children’s novel set in London during the Puritan Commonwealth, an interesting blend of historical fiction, fantasy, and a little bit of romance. Her next novel, The Red Necklace, came out a couple of years later, and I got myself a copy, and then, typical of me, forgot about it until I dug it out of my TBR inventory during Holy Week.

I took it with me during our company outing to Bohol last month, and because the flight was delayed, I managed to finish it before our plane landed.
