August has been, to say the least, a struggle, what with work in full swing, the tension-filled flood watch (Ground floor. Again. Ridiculous!), the ongoing post-flood cleanup (UGH), and yeah, top that off with dengue fever paranoia.
While my world’s all kinds of crazy, one thing’s definitely on track — the 2013 Filipino Readers’ Choice Awards. In the past couple of weeks, the FRCA committee (read: Tina, Tarie, and yours truly) has set the ball rolling for the FRCA’s second straight year, and after wading through the nominations sent in by readers, voila, the Public Voting phase for FRCA is now live! Squee!
Vote now!
The 2013 FRCA is currently in the Public Voting phase, wherein readers have the power to get their favorite titles into the shortlist via online votes. Voting is open until Sept. 6, 11:59 pm, one ballot per email address.

Based on the tally of votes, top entries in each category will move on to the final phase of the awards, the panel deliberation. Finalists will be announced at the Filipino ReaderCon kick off event at the Manila International Book Fair on Sept. 14, while the awards ceremony will take place at the 3rd Filipino Reader Conference on Nov. 9.

About the Awards
An initiative of the Filipino Book Bloggers Group, the Filipino Readers’ Choice Awards debuted at the 2nd Filipino Reader Conference in 2012, and was established to develop awareness and appreciation of Philippine literature, recognize the reader’s role in creating the meaning and experience of a literary work, and give the readers a voice in the Philippine book industry.

Esguerra, Summit Books (Chick Lit); “Ilustrado” by Miguel Syjuco, Anvil Publishing (Novel in English), “Ang Huling Dalagang Bukid at ang Authobiography na Mali by Jun Cruz-Reyes, Anvil Publishing (Novel in Filipino); “KikoMachine Komiks Blg 6” by Manix Abrera, Visprint (Comics/ graphic novel); “Alternative Alamat” edited by Paolo Chikiamco, Rocket Kapre and Flipside (Short Story Anthology); “It’s A Mens World” by Bebang Siy, Anvil Publishing (Essay Anthology); and “Off the Beaten Track: Tulaan sa Tren 2,” NBDB and Vibal Foundation (Poetry Anthology).
