Torment, Passion, and Lauren Kate

I was lucky enough to have squeezed in dinner with Lauren Kate on Friday night, despite the busy schedule for her National Book Store Passion tour. The Manila event kicked off yesterday at Glorietta 5, and Lauren is having another one today at Ayala Center Cebu.

I had a great interview with Lauren last year, and thought it would be lovely to catch up with her after a whirlwind six months (she’s been on tour, mostly). But traffic was horrible last night (I stressed all the way to the interview) and I could see Lauren had a full weekend ahead of her (and a lot of books to sign!), so I mainly ran through the questions that had been plaguing me as I was reading Torment and Passion, which I finished overnight in time for meeting Lauren!

The Lost Language

Back in December, the Filipino book bloggers met up with Marianne Villanueva, who is one of the most delightful authors I’ve ever had the chance to meet.

I got a signed copy of her book,  The Lost Language: Stories (and in nice paper, too!) and I finally got to read it earlier this year.

Q & A with Vikas Swarup

I was glad to have caught the Vikas Swarup book signing last week at National Book Store Glorietta 5, even though I had to sit through an hour of horrible traffic just to get there.

I saw Slumdog Millionaire when it was released and I enjoyed it, but I hadn’t gotten the chance to read the novel Q & A, on which the movie was based. But I enjoy meeting authors and talking to them, so I really wanted to interview Mr, Swarup. I was worried because he was scheduled for dinner over at the neighboring city, so I was glad he obliged when I ambushed him for an interview over cocktails (ooh, samosas and kebabs, and it was almost as if I could hear Jai Ho! in the background)!

Update (13 Jul): The signed Hunger Games is currently at $61, GOF currently at $201. They’ve also got a signed copy of Meg Cabot’s How to be Popular at $30!

Art Spiegelman! Squee!

The past month has been just fab in feeding my Art Spiegelman fangirl frenzy. First I found that enormous Art Spiegelman book on bargain at a book store sale after last month’s book discussion.

Then my cousin (and bookish partner in crime) Dianne got me an autographed Maus II (and a Strand notebook, and a Great Writers deck of cards) from her trip to New York. And then Flipper friend Mike (who actually made an Art Spiegelman fangirl out of me when he lent me his Maus set) brought me back an Art Spiegelman Strand totebag (and a Strand button pin) showing Maus “stranded in a sea of books”!
