I’m not a terribly vain person, but there is a reason I like going to the salon — I get some reading done! The, erm, “beautification” is an added bonus.
This year has kept me pretty busy that I’ve rarely had time to read for very long, and I have to consciously jump at all opportunities for reading, including, to the amusement of my officemates, that snippet of time after the afternoon bell has rung, and I’m waiting for the rest of them to shut down their terminals and pack up their stuff.
Anyway, last weekend, I threw some books into a totebag and headed to the salon for a hair rebond. I get my hair rebonded once a year, because it saves a lot of time fussing about hair all year round and drastically reduces the frequency of bad hair days (especially in the humidity!).
I always bring a bunch of books along with me whenever I get my hair rebonded. Some years I finish three short books, some years two medium-length ones, This year I brought three books, books 2 and 3 of the Millennium trilogy and one Meg Cabot. I knew I had no hope of finishing even one of the Millennium books, but I’m always irrationally paranoid about running out of reading material whenever I pack books, hahaha, so I always have extras.
Note the pained grimace. Shortly after, I couldn’t get any reading done for a full hour
because I was tearing up in pain. Ahh, the price of vanity.
Owwies. This is why I only get it done once a year.
A few more minutes of ironing to go and maybe I can touch my lunch…
Is that Lisbeth Salander working on my hair?!? Haha, hunger is making me hallucinate.
Phase 2, and I can afford to pose for photos now
and I can enjoy reading again!
After four hours, minus shampoo time, the ironing episode, a few minutes to bolt down some lunch, and chatting with people from work (yes, they were taking my photos) I managed to make some headway into The Girl who Played with Fire, about 200 pages that afternoon. Not bad for one sitting.
Later that weekend, I proceeded to lose sleep over the Millennium trilogy, but that’s another blog entry! Will have my reviews up soon.
Meanwhile, I think I’ll get my nails done this weekend!
where did u get ur hair rebond?curious
Sarap nga mag basa pag nag papa rebond. San ka nag pa rebond?
@Ella and Ray-ann: Ricky Reyes, for five years na. They do a great rebond — soft long-lasting, and it doesn’t look stick-straight!
Millenium trilogy still on my wishlist… looking forward to the rest of your reviews!
I have no idea what a hair rebond is but it sounds excruciatingly painful!
Haha, it’s a straightening process. It just stings because they have to iron your hair from the scalp to the tip (2 irons and small sections at a time) after applying the formula. But it’s worth it :)
I like to read during the hair process, during Drs. Visits, during nails being done during eating and even watching TV. I know….Huh.
Anyway I really like what you have done here it sound like fun. I found you on book blogs and am now following. Please stop by and check me out at

-ROFL!
Squinting helps a whole lot hahaha!
I am a boy. Imagine me reading a book while my barber cuts my hair. I see a very unpleasant experience, and an unpleasant face to after the haircut.
Hahaha, get a hot oil treatment then!
