An early Christmas surprise came on the day before the prom — my Flips Flipping Pages exchange gift got delivered to the office.
Every year our book club holds a gift exchange for members who want to participate, and this is the third year I’ve joined. We assign the gifters and the giftees, set the budget, post our wishlists, and it’s up to the generosity and resourcefulness of the gifter to get the books on the giftee’s wishlist. We’ve been doing it for three years now, and it’s always a huge success. Some gifters even manage to find books the giftee is having trouble finding!
You may have read my 2010 wishlist, but I gave a separate one for the gift exchange, because I wanted to give my gifter several options within the given budget.
With a heavy package sitting on my desk, I couldn’t hold out ’til Christmas to open it.
There was a sweet message from my “mommy” Chie:
And inside the shiny box, I was delighted to find these:
Awesome!!!
I’m way overdue for my next Murakami read; it’s taken a while for me to recover from my first — Norwegian Wood a couple of years ago. People have been telling me I’ve got to read The Wind-up Bird Chronicle, and so I’m pencilling it in for next year.
The Last Apprentice books I’m also looking forward to reading; it’s great I now have books 2 and 3 to read after I enjoyed the first book.
This is the first Christmas present I received this year, and I’m truly delighted that I didn’t get one, or two, but three books from my mommy!
Thanks, Chie!
Wowee! I didn’t love the Windup Bird Chronicle or Norwegian Wood, but thought Kafka on the Shore and South of the Border, West of the Sun were fantastic.
Iya, I found Norwegian Wood depressing, which is why it’s taken me so long to pick up another Murakami.
