I was bummed to have missed last April’s 24-Hour Readathon, so I resolved to join today’s readathon. I’ve joined a couple of readathons in the past and they’ve always been a lot of fun, and I didn’t want the year to end without at least one readathon.
24-hour read-a-thon is an event mounted in memory of Dewey, a blogger and a reader who started the event in October 2007. Dewey passed away in November 2008, and the 24-hour read-a-thon is continued by those who’ve helped Dewey organize the past read-a-thons, and hundreds of book bloggers in the world.
I spent most of the day today in line to see the 17th century galleon replica, the Galeon Andalucia at the South Harbor, and when I got home, I spent the first hour of the readathon starting my first book.
Here’s my reading list for the readathon, with 8 books. I will try to add some more if I still have time. I’m reading from Makati City, Philippines.
I’ve got this Halloween theme going, so here’s the list
1) The Spook’s Apprentice by Joseph Delaney
2) Num8ers by Rachel Ward
3) Skeleton Creek by Patrick Carman
4) Ghost in the Machine by Patrick Carman
5) The Hair Scare by Jeffrey Fisher
6) Faust by the Metropolitan Opera Guild
7) Kate Culhane, A Ghost Story by Michael Hague
8) The Diary of Victor Frankenstein
I plan to alternate the novels with the shorter books, just to mix it up.
***
Hmm, 3 facts about me:
1) Today I stood in line for over 9 hours to see a replica of a 17th century Spanish galleon
2) I have over five hundred unread books in my TBR (general)
3) I am scared of staying up late tonight because of my Halloween themed reading list.
My goal is to finish all eight books, and hopefully more, and to comment on at least ten blogs.
My general advice is for readathoners is to alternate picture books or graphic novels with full-text novels so their eyes get some breathing space.
That’s it for now, and good luck to everyone doing the readathon! More later!
Where are you reading from today?
3 facts about me …
How many books do you have in your TBR pile for the next 24 hours?
Do you have any goals for the read-a-thon (i.e. number of books, number of pages, number of hours, or number of comments on blogs)?
If you’re a veteran read-a-thoner, any advice for people doing this for the first time?

oh wow great tips bloo, happy reading!
ella, did you join the readathon?

Have a great workout today :)
Thank you, Stacy!
(Non)traditional Buddhist readathon blessing:
Just as the books fill the shelves,
Pile together on the floor and stack up on the table
So may the joy of the readathon
Flow forth to brighten your day and lift your spirit.
Books already read, books in progress and books yet to be read.
By the power of every word on the page
May your book be delightful,
As scary as Lovecraft’s Cthulhu
Or as sweet as a box of See’s candy.
Let the power of the images evoked by words
Keep you stay awake long through the night
May no obstacle impede
Your day filled with books.
For all of those who are reading today
Who follow in the path of Dewey
May your day be filled with the four blessings
Of fabulous books, tasty snacks, comfy chairs and joy.
What a thoughtful message, thanks softdrink!
Hope your reading doesn’t get too scary!
It did and I fell asleep under a blanket!!! Hahaha, but it was fun. Thanks Cass!
Yay, Blooey! It’s my first time, haha. We can do this! :D

Hey, Blooey. Are you scared yet?
So far, I’m stilll awake. :)
Got scared and fell asleep around 1am. Left the reading light on and now the batteries are out :D heheh
Hope you’re enjoying your reading…keep it up!
Thanks a lot, Ronnica!
You got this!!! :) You are doing awesome!!
Anyways, I’m Jamie–one of your cheerleaders ready to cheer you on! Sometimes when I was in college and I would be doing marathon paper writing (not that the readthon isn’t fun!!) I would need just a quick stretch and a laugh and for whatever reason laughing babies always did the trick to make me giggle and then get back done to business! Here’s one of my favorites:

Yay! I’m rooting for all you Read-a-Thoners. I might be brave enough to join one someday :)
Thanks Iya! April again, we’ll organize some sort of sleep(er… read)over
Well, those halloween-themed books should keep you awake through the read-a-thon! Enjoy the rest of it.
Fell asleep because my imagination was getting the best of me. But made up for it when I woke up. Thanks, Valerie!
