The Really Tiny Book Light

Reading in the dark has not been the same for me since my trusty Harry Potter Lumos Lightwedge went out of commission — two of the batteries have leaked shut down both of the narrow terminals and I still haven’t found a way to take them out without destroying the device. I’ve contacted the Lightwedge people and they said it’s outside the warranty and they don’t even make the Lumos anymore.

In my search for a substitute, I came across “The Really Tiny Book Light” at National Book Store and decided to get the Tiny Pink so I could get some nighttime reading done once again, especially since the past two months have been crammed full with out of town business trips.

My Tiny Pink is a clip-on LED booklight that rotates to a full ninety-degree angle position.  I was attracted by the stylish form and the sheer handiness — it’s no bigger than my hand when fully extended.

Powered by three AG3 batteries, it has a powerful LED bulb surrounded by a round reflector that directs the light onto the page. The light switch is a pushbutton at the bottom of the device.

While the Tiny Pink doesn’t distribute the light as evenly as the Lightwedge, it’s adequate enough for me to read properly without having to adjust and readjust the clip. I clip the light onto the book (or even on my shirt!), find the right angle, and I’m good to go.

I’m not crazy about the pushbutton, though, as slight movement can put enough pressure on it to turn the light on and off. This is particularly worrisome if I jostle it in my sleep, or if I store it in my bag during travel and it gets turned on and I end up running down the batteries.

The upside is that while I’m normally opposed to clip-on booklights because I’ve had some that leave unsightly marks on the pages of the book, the Tiny Pink doesn’t, and that’s one thing I’m glad about.

It’s no Lightwedge, but it will have to do for now. Sigh, if you know a way to dislodge leaked batteries from narrow terminals (as in no space to maneuver!), let me know.

  1. Nice. Enjoy your new toy. Also noticed your GLEE bookamark. Is that 2666? Looks like you’re in book one (saw the words “Norton” and “Archimboldi). I’m 50 pages away from the end of ILUSTRADO. Pretty good.

By the way, would you know if the Lightwedge clone is still available at Raon?

    1. Thanks Mike, I am enjoying it. The Glee bookmark is a freebie at one of those Yo Card thingies before Glee came out. I grabbed a bunch randomly and recently discovered it in my stash. I still have a couple of them, I’ll save one for you.

Yes, that’s 2666, and you’re right I’m in Book 1! Hahaha, I like it, so far, except I’m having trouble lugging the hardcover around so I only get to read it at home :)

Glad you’re enjoying Ilustrado! The ending’s the best part, I think :D

      1. Oh, and re the Lightwedge clone, I haven’t been to Quiapo or Divi lately, but in December they still had it, I wish I’d bought one then.

    1. It’s really handy, Alita, especially for evening flights and road trips, or when you don’t want to disturb your hotel roommate when you read in bed :)

Comes in a whole variety of colors, too. I want to get a blue one too!

    1. It’s past the leaky stage now, the leak’s solidified and sealed the batteries in, waah.

This is one of the better booklights I’ve tried though :)

  2. actually been considering in getting a booklight and this is quite cheaper as opposed to those in powerbooks and on nbs bestsellers however can’t find the help me bookmark like what u have love your glee bookmark am a gleeK ;)

  4. Blooey I was able to get SAVAGE DETECTIVES by Bolano for $7! Thats about Php250+. Mura! :-)

By the way I saw ILUSTRADO (HB) in Strands. It’s in the Bestsellers pile. Makes you proud to be Pinoy! Will try to take a pic of it and then you can add it to your blog. :-)

    1. Will have to make progress on 2666, I switched to Prince of Mist kasi.

International edition yung Ilustrado at Strands? I wish they’d sell that edition here too.

    1. hahaha a few years back I didn’t know gadgets like these existed as well. and now i’m a sick book geek collecting them!

  5. That’s a nice one, Bloo! Very handy during out of town trips. I would have liked to get one, i like the colors! Mine is a black one called Might Bright a gift, illuminates well and adjustible but i dont like the clip, kind of cumbersome when i flip pages.

    1. The clip on this one is really good, easy to slip in and out of the pages and barely takes up space.

I was at Fully Booked the other day and they’ve got a bunch of great ones in stock as well, I should check them out.

On second thought, I should stay away from them because I shouldn’t be blowing my money on more booklights!

  6. already have the tiny booklight lakas ng light nyA first time nagamit ko ng bagyong basyang so i can read hehe will buy help me stirrer/bookmarks found em at powerbooks megamall
