Last Sunday, I was pushing the shopping cart to the checkout counter of the supermarket when my brother intercepts me and leads me to the toy section, where he points to a stack of boxes at the end of one row. He knows I collect book-related memorabilia (mostly toys) and spotted a great bargain for me: The Balancing Cat in the Hat for the super low price of P50 (a little over USD 1)!
I was already gleeful from my successful book-shopping expedition, and this discovery was a perfect ending to that day. We couldn’t wait to get home and try it out.
If you haven’t read Dr. Seuss‘ Cat in the Hat, let me tell you that balancing is one of the Cat in the Hat’s wacky tricks as he attempts to amuse the children — he balances a teacup, some milk, a cake, three books, the fish, a rake, a toy boat, a toy man, a red fan, and his umbrella atop a ball.
I opened the box and found a plushie Cat in the Hat on a unicycle, two balancing attachments, and some string. I tied the string to the doors of two wardrobes, (about 3 feet above ground) like a tightrope, attached the balancers, set the unicycle on the string, and ta-daaaaah!
It’s my first Dr. Seuss toy and I love love love it!

Iya — the toys section at SM Hypermart, Harrison Plaza. There were about five (?) more boxes there… A bit dented but the contents are intact

Not sure I can go back soon. It’s only at SM Hypermart, not the supermarket. But will check the Hypermart near my office this week.
