The Hogwarts Library (Birthday giveaway!)

Squee!!! I finally got my hands on the Hogwarts Library this weekend, and it’s a real beauty!

The Hogwarts Library is the first boxed set of the new editions of Quidditch Through The Ages, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and The Tales of Beedle the Bard. Clothbound and elegant, they come in a red slipcase emblazoned with the gold Hogwarts crest. Paper is thick and smooth and a lovely cream color.

I got out my older editions and aside from the more stylish packaging, the most glaring difference is the switch of colors: Quidditch through the Ages is now red and Fantastic Beasts is now green, while Tales of Beedle the Bard adapts the blue (and interior page design) of the UK edition.

The new editions drop the use of the Lumos font (it’s like, the end of an era. *tears*)…

…but the profits go to J.K. Rowling’s Lumos charity as well as to Comic Relief.

Fans will be glad to know that graffiti by Harry and Ron on Fantastic Beasts are still intact.

The borrower’s card on Quidditch Through the Ages has a different set of names on it (new edition on the left):

Quidditch through the Ages also sports a new Snitch page number device:

Fantastic Beasts now has a chapter divider for the lexicon and illuminated letters to mark each section.

Other than that, there minor changes in page order and illustration scales. But basically, these are the same books we spent hours poring over, in a spiffier packaging. Perfect for Harry Potter collectors like me.

So, I’m giving away a Hogwarts Library for my birthday, bundled with a Harry Potter canvas book pouch (I had this personalized so you won’t find it anywhere else). Contest starts on January 28, and will run until February 4.

    1. Thanks MJ — it was your FB post that made me decide to do the fundraiser for my birthday!

Glad the book list was of help :)

    1. Thank you, Myra! :) There was one boxed set with both Quidditch and Fantastic Beasts some years ago, but they were exactly the same as the loose ones save for the cardboard slipcase, so I ended up not getting it. This new set’s really worth it!

  2. happy birthday, sumthinblue!!!
What a wonderful birthday giveaway, giving something back when you should be on the receiving end.
may even more blessings come your way! GOD BLESS!

    1. Miss you too! You’ve missed the Christmas party, the Cheese party, and Best and Worst… See you in February, I hope!

  3. Happy Birthday po ate blooey! Hope I’d be able to see you again in next year’s FilReader Con. and i’m sure, yours will be the cutest booth again! :D

    1. Thank you, Elena. I’m not sure the FilReaderCon will have a Book Reco Fair again, but if it does, I’ll certainly find a way to top last year’s booth :)

  4. I was happy to learn that Fantastic Beasts will become an HP spin-off film! (Although I have only read Tales of Beedle the Bard.) Glad for this little piece of HP to look forward to again.

Happy Name Day Blooey! More to come! :D

    1. While I wasn’t a fan of the HP film franchise, I’d be willing to give the Fantastic Beasts spinoff a shot :) Thanks for the birthday wishes, Tin!

  5. Happy Birthday! Wow, that’s probably one of the greatest gifts a booklover could receive. And the covers… oh my. Such beauty. LOL. :) I have a book blog, too! But I just started this June so it’s still in its premature stage. :)

  6. Hi Ms. Blooey, or Ms. sumthinblue (not sure on which is which)!
I dont know what to say, Im pretty nervous right now but thank you for that give away, whether I will or not win the books home, thank you for existing and giving love to books. (Im not making anysense. am I?) Hihi Happy Birthday! Keep safe.

  7. Sorry Ms, I don’t have anything yet, to donate for Sambat Trust. But I’ll try to share this cause as much as I can. Happy Birthday! :)

    1. Goldie, probably for a more contemporary look, and to cater to several generations of fans who have already grown up. I do love the Lumos font, though it’s mainly used in the US editions. But those were the editions I grew up reading, so they’ll always be special to me :)

  8. I would like to greet you a happy birthday!
Keep on updating your page with new blog posts as we look forward to it :) God Bless you.
