Happy New Giveaway!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

I’m greeting you just now, as my sister came home from Singapore for the holidays and we’ve been traipsing (read: eating and shopping) all over the metropolis, before she goes off on assignment in Prague.

Anyway, in the next couple of weeks, I’m wrapping up up my 2011 reads — I’m compiling this year’s book tally, and I’m happy to report I read well past last year’s total count! I am also finishing up one last bunch of reviews for you guys: some of the books I read in the last couple months are among my best reads for the year — must-reads, I promise! — so watch out for the reviews! I’ve also been hedging on reviewing my worst read for the year, so you’ll get to read that, too.

But that’s not all — because my blog is on its fourth year running this 2012 (I can’t believe I’ve been blogging since January 2009!), and because January is my birthday month, I’ve got a bunch of giveaways lined up for you guys. Starting with this one — up for grabs are two Le Petit Prince desk planners!

Another trivia roundup

I run through trivia books like other girls run through, say, a tube of lipstick.

At any given time, in between the novels I read, I thumb through five to eight trivia books simultaneously and all over the house — in bed, in the bathroom, in the den, in the kitchen. As I’ve said before, they make great palate cleansers, especially when I’ve been reading text-heavy narratives, plus they contain snippets that can be read and digested easily, not to mention the convenience of being able to stop at any point of the book and pick it up days or weeks later and just keep on reading. The trivia junkie that I am, these useless bits of information do come in handy from time to time during the weekly quiz nights and the monthly geek fights that I attend.

I finish a batch of trivia books several times in a year, hence the trivia book roundups. Here’s the last bunch from last year, which includes Say Chic; The Bathroom Trivia Book; Be Safe!; Cocktail Party Cheat Sheets; Kiss and Tell; A Year in High Heels; From Altoids to Zima; The TV Guide Book of Lists; The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Fun FAQs. These are books 189-198 for 2010, which means I only owe you 6 more book reviews in my 2010 backlog. Hopefully I have the remaining six up by next week so I can move on to my January reads (12 and counting) as well as a surprise in the works for this month (patience!).

First post for the year

Happy New Year!

It’s the last day of my vacation and I hope to get back on track with my blogging within the week.

But before I start a new year of blogging, I’d like to thank everyone for sharing 2010 with me. The year has flown by so fast — I think it’s been my busiest year ever, judging from the way my reading tally plummeted to 205, some 30-40 books down from my annual average for the past three years (or maybe I’ve just been reading thicker books). Nevertheless, the year has been quite eventful, with weekends packed with bookish activities, and I’ve also made a lot of new friends: authors, illustrators, fellow book bloggers,  BookMoochers, new Flippers, and new blog readers! Oh, and don’t get me started on the number of books I’ve added to my TBR in 2010, because I’m actually too scared to count ’em! :D
