Reading Rampaaaaage! (Part III)

(Continuation. Click for Part I and Part II)

So the Flippers started arriving, and nobody was owning up to their bookish alter ego, as part of the activities was a guessing game of who could name the most characters in the party. We had our scrumptious buffet and our traditional gift-giving, and after we had submitted our finally came to the highlight of the program: the costume competition!

Each Flipper had to  “model” their character down the aisle, get up on the platform and introduce their character. See what the Flippers dressed up as!

On Stieg Larsson

As a belated Christmas present last year, I got myself the hardcover deluxe boxed set of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy. Aside from the fact that it’s a breathtakingly beautiful set of cloth-covered books, I was pleased to find a fourth volume inside the slipcase: On Stieg Larsson.

After the exhilarating experience of reading the Millennium Trilogy, I was quite interested to find out more about Stieg Larsson, so I eagerly sank my teeth into this thin volume.

What I got myself for Christmas

Here’s a Christmas present I got myself, after being cooped up with this upper respiratory tract infection for most of my short vacation: The Millennium Trilogy Deluxe Edition Boxed Set.

I’ve been drooling over this ever since I saw it at the bookstore earlier this month, and I was trying to see how long I could hold out before breaking down , but National Book Store was on sale at Mall of Asia and 20% off (P2,395 from P2,995) was too good a deal to pass up!  I finally took home the set today! Squee!

I know, I know, you’re thinking, I’ve read the Millennium trilogy, I have three copies of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (trade paperback and hardcover AND a Swedish mass market paperback), and I have mass market paperbacks of The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest. But you know I can never resist a pretty book (even one that I already have a copy — or multiple copies for that matter — of, erm, this is why I’ve come to amass over a hundred Harry Potter books in different languages), and well, check out how pretty this boxed set is:

The Week in Loot

In case you’re wondering why I haven’t posted in the past few days, it’s because I’m trapped in the holiday frenzy — Christmas shopping to complete, presents to wrap, parties to attend and the horrible city traffic. Plus the dawn masses have started and I wake up at 4am to go, so I’m running on very little energy at the moment. Hopefully normal blogging resumes after Christmas, but I’ll try and post more before then.

Anyway, I was supposed to be shopping for books on other people’s wishlists, but they’ve been elusive so far, and I’ve illicitly gone a-looting for myself (I promised not to buy any more books for myself until Christmas, but I’ve given up on that) because well, the holiday stress was getting to me and book shopping is therapeutic (and yes, I have no self-control)!

Reading time!

I’m not  a terribly vain person, but there is a reason I like going to the salon — I get some reading done! The, erm, “beautification” is an added bonus.

This year has kept me pretty busy that I’ve rarely had time to read for very long, and I have to consciously jump at all opportunities for reading, including, to the amusement of my officemates, that snippet of time after the afternoon bell has rung, and I’m waiting for the rest of them to shut down their terminals and pack up their stuff.

Anyway, last weekend, I threw some books into a totebag and headed to the salon for a hair rebond. I get my hair rebonded once a year, because it saves a lot of time fussing about hair all year round and drastically reduces the frequency of bad hair days (especially in the humidity!).
