Giveaway: Linamnam
As promised, here’s this week’s giveaway: a spanking new copy of Linamnam by Claude Tayag and Mary Ann Quioc, a must-have for every foodie’s bookshelf (read my review in the previous post).
Linamnam
I’m a foodie as much as a bookworm (just ask the members of my book club, with whom monthly book discussions end up as gastronomic exercises), and local travel here in the Philippines, however, is almost synonymous to food trip, and I’m lucky work has taken me to various places around the country that I never would have gone to — I covered an interisland race for two years, so that checked off quite a few places in my Lakbayan map (check out the bottom of this post: I’m currently a B-, not bad as I was a C when the widget thingy was first released), but I do plan on exploring more of our islands — and eat around the Philippines! –before this lifetime is over.
One of my last book purchases last year is an investment towards that goal: Linamnam: Eating One’s Way Around the Philippines.
Kitchen Princess
When I went over the books I read in 2010, I realized I only read one manga volume all year (and not a very good one at that). So at the start of the year, I decided to get my manga fix early on — I finished reading nine volumes of Kitchen Princess in January!
I discovered Kitchen Princess (manga by Natsumi Ando, story by Miyuki Kobayashi) a couple of years ago after I got the first volume on Bookmooch. Initially I just wanted to try it out, but I enjoyed it so much I wanted to read the rest of the series.
I couldn’t find the other volumes on BookMooch or the local bookstores, but well, an e-reader opens up a whole lot of possibilities.
The last of the 2009 backlog
After a month and a half of moaning and groaning, I’ve finally reached the end of my backlog — the last four books I read in 2009, for a grand total of 244.
I realize the problem now– reading the 244 books is easy; reviewing every one of them is another matter. I’d be happy if I can blog half as fast as I read, but try as I might, it’s a tall order. I can multi-task reading, but blogging about them takes my full attention, and I try to squeeze it in when I have time to spare, a luxury I haven’t had much of since the year started. I’m definitely not complaining; blogging has its own rewards, and I’ve enjoyed a whole year of blogging about the books I’ve read; but I think I’ll have to strategize better to achieve my next goal: to catch up on blogging my January and February readings by March.
Here are the last four books for 2009 (and a big sigh of relief from me!), all of them comic in nature. As you may have noticed, I steered clear of text-heavy books towards the end of the year, and this is the last batch of them: Chas Addams’ Half Baked Cookbook by Charles Addams; Fruits Basket by Natsuki Takaya (leftover from the October 24-hour readathon); and the first two volumes of the detective Conan manga, Case Closed 1 and 2 by Gosho Aoyama.
