Reading something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue
I’ve been working really hard on my booth for the Book Reco Fair at the Filipino ReaderCon for weeks now, and I can’t believe it’s finally happening on Saturday! Squee! Finally, the work of my poor cramped hands (!) over many sleepless nights will see the light of day.
Here’s a sneak peek of what you’ll find at my booth.
A few weeks ago, I got an email from a reader inquiring if I would be interested to review her new chick lit novel, Confessions of a Call Center Gal, which was released on Amazon this month.
I told Lisa (whom, by the way, I have never met or made any contact with before) that I was okay with an electronic review copy to load on my Nook. I remember downloading the file from her email message and I remember confirming the receipt and telling her I’d read the book within the next couple of weeks.
Fast forward a bit. So I’ve been reading the novel, and today, at lunch, I was halfway through the book when my eyes virtually popped out of their sockets and I nearly (nearly!) dropped my Nook — I couldn’t believe what I was reading!
A couple of weeks ago, I was surprised to find out I was a finalist to this year’s Philippine Blog Awards, an annual event in the Philippine blogging community that honors outstanding Filipino blogs and bloggers.
I knew I’d been nominated, but I never thought I’d make it as a finalist in the culture and arts category, as it’s only been ten months since I started book blogging, and hundreds of other blogs were nominated for the various blog categories nationwide.
Due to the nature of my work, I frequently encounter top bloggers who have carved out their names in their own niches, in the blogosphere, and even in mainstream media. I’ve always admired their devotion to developing new content for their blogs, and wished I had half as much dedication in me, although I never thought about actively blogging until this year.
