Ta da da dum…

Got a lovely surprise delivered to the office yesterday!

Ta da da dum…

Ta da da dum….

It’s heeeeeere!

Forgive the shameless plug, it’s not everyday I get a book released! :)

Ang Pag-ibig ni Maryang Sinukuan is a book in the latest set of Anvil Publishing’s Lola Basyang series, stories written by Severino Reyes, retold by Christine Bellen. Illustrations by yours truly. It’s a dark fairy tale with a lot of magical elements (my lips are sealed!).

You may have seen the cover on my Facebook profile, but I wasn’t expecting it in print just yet. The publisher was exploring the e-book option for our set, but aieee! It’s hot off the press and in print just in time for the Manila International Book Fair! Yay for good ol’ paper and glue!

And I must say I have an emotional attachment to this book, because it was one of the biggest challenges I had to overcome. Not a lot of people know the story: Ondoy came smack dab when I was in the thick of the work; more than half the original artwork literally dissolved in the thigh-deep flood that entered our house, and (after a good cry) I had to repeat the plates.

But all that’s over — it’s finally here.

Here’s a sneak peak (no spoilers, I promise :p)

Ang Pag-ibig ni Maryang Sinukuan
will be available at the Anvil booth at the Manila International Book Fair.

    1. Thanks, Honey — I have to ask what will happen in that direction, they really were planning to release in ebooks first. Although I’m a bit worried about some spreads either getting shrunk or split.

But I must say, ebook technology does add an exciting dimension to illustrating children’s books :)

  1. Bloo, if you make it in standard epub, the formatting and layout will change drastically. Children’s books should be in fixed-layout epub and enhanced (meaning can be with video/audio/interactivity). You can maintain your layout then.
Hope they can explore that, too. It would be great and would mean wider distribution. (And if you need help, let me know.;P)

    1. I know… This series was created a couple years ago, so we did not have the ebook format in mind.

We actually had a briefing for the ebooks, already, which is why the print is a surprise.

I have kuwento haha, let me PM you.

  2. Wow! LOVE your illustrations :) Yeah, you know that already :) (remember the manual?)

I’m going to have to start up my Pinoy library! And I’ll need to get copies of the books you’ve illustrated. Papa-autograph ko ha!

    Congratulations :)

    1. Quite memorable that, manual :)

Actually, I need to reinforce my Pinoy picture book collection as well — I’m at the MIBF every year and I keep forgetting to stock up!

    1. Iya, nope not that — I think that was Ibong Adarna :) And under a different publisher

:) This should be in the bookstores, soon, too

    1. Thanks for your support :) I really appreciate it. Don’t worry, the books will be distributed via NBS so you’ll get copies in Cebu soon enough.
