It’s September, and there is one event that stands out in my bookish calendar: the Manila International Book Fair, happening on Sept. 16-20 at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City. I’m literally counting down to opening day tomorrow (ack!) and looking forward to five days of pure bookish bliss.
If you must know, my first book fair was when I was in third grade — the Reading Club (yes, I started young) took a field trip to the book fair in Megamall, and by some strange coincidence (or not :D), I’ve been working on-site at the MIBF every year for the past ten years (I just realized that after typing it — whoa!), and I’ve got about six pages of MIBF coverage on this blog (all the way to 2009 when I first started blogging).
It’s one of the accounts I’m personally invested in, and while it’s a tremendous amount of work, I find it quite rewarding — there’s just so much to look forward to, and there’s nothing quite like the enthusiasm of the crowd over the year’s crop of books.
You can find the complete list of exhibitors for the MIBF here and the special events schedule here. Exhibitors will have their own booths and activities — they’re posted all over social media, so I’ve compiled some of the more interesting ones here:
Adarna
National Book Store
Anvil
Visprint
Church Strengthening Ministry
Viva PSICOM
Buqo
Mechanics here.
Pop Fiction (Summit)
Summit Books
Precious Pages / Lampara
The MIBF is open from 10 am to 8pm from Wed., Sept 16 to Sunday Sept. 20. Tickets are at P20, but check out your favorite publisher’s social media accounts for free tickets.
