Mockingjay Giveaway!

I meant to do this earlier, but September is always the busiest month in my year so this month’s posts have been sporadic at best…

Anyway, I have an extra copy of Mockingjay, the final book in the Hunger Games trilogy, a complimentary copy from Scholastic (because I co-moderated the discussion at the Mockingjay launch party), so I’m raffling it off.

Check out the mechanics after the cut.

I’m giving away a first edition, hardcover copy of Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins, an official Mockingjay bookmark, and two pieces of official Mockingjay tattoos (of the temporary, just-add-water kind).

the loot!

The Mechanics:

1. The raffle is open to all readers with a Philippine mailing address.

2. To enter the raffle, just post in the comments section on the topic below:

Tell me about your favorite young adult (YA) novel.

3. Entries will be accepted until Friday, Sept. 24th, 12 midnight, Manila time.

4. One raffle entry per email address, but ip addresses will be screened as a safeguard against spam entries. I will reply to your entry in the comments section to validate it, and I reserve the right to weed out suspicious entries.

5. Winner will be drawn via Random.org. Winner will be announced here within three days after the end of the entry period. Random.org screenshots will accompany the announcement of the winner.

6. An email will also be sent to the winner to request their (Philippine) mailing address. Book will be packaged securely and sent via a local courier.

I’m looking forward to the answers already!

I’m so tempted to say, “Let the Hunger Games begin” but I don’t want you to think I’m going to make you kill each other for a copy of Mockingjay… or am I?

*evil grin*

Just kidding. But I am declaring the raffle entry period officially open as of the time I publish this post.

And to all entrants, may the odds be ever in your favor!

Thank you to Scholastic Philippines for this complimentary copy! You’ll be making one of my readers very happy!

  1. Judy Blume’s “Just as Long as We’re Together.” Not a lot of explanations needed, but if there was a book I’m glad I read when we were in Grade 4 or 5, that was it. That’s the Best Friends Forever book.

Uy, cheesy. And yes, I am commenting since it’s Random.org that will choose the winner. Wala namang best friends clause diyan. Hehe!

    1. Yay for Judy Blume!!! :)

This counts as your official entry, Myx, and you’re gonna love this series!

Thanks for getting this raffle on the road. Good luck!

    1. I read it last year as well although I really didn’t like it that much. Maybe the next books in the series are better, although I’m still hunting them down.

      You’re in, Lightheaded

  2. Sweet Valley HIgh series and University series! This tells the story of the Wakefield twins Elizabeth and Jessica. Their adventures & misadventures, their circle of friends and family too. I so loved the saga series, gave you deeper understanding of them and their families. ;)

  3. Since I was a late bloomer, I’ll choose the Artemis Fowl or Cirque Du Freak series. The first one is about a boy genius that unravels the mysteries of the elemental beings. I am totally fascinated by fairies, mole, centaurs and the like. While Cirque Du Freak was in the vampire department. :)

    1. Yay another Cirque du Freak fan! Best vampire YA series ever.

Haven’t tried Artemis Fowl, but I do have book one in the series in my TBR, I should pick that up soon.

      :) Your entry is counted.

  4. arg, wala na ako sa pinas!!!

anyway, ok lang. one of my first and fave books was “are you there god, it’s me, margaret” which is definitely a great eye-opener for any girl hitting puberty!

    1. Aloi, “Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret” is a favorite of mine too!!! I wanted to start my own PTS group! Hahaha.

I’m counting this as your entry. Maybe you have friends or family who can send the book along for you, in the event you win? :)

  5. Oh this is a hard question to answer as this is my favorite genre (eventhough I’m already 27 hahaha). Anyway my favorite YA book of all time, or rather books, is the Harry Potter series. I have actually lost count of how many times I have reread the books and I always feel sad everytime I would get to the last page of Deathly Hallows.

    1. Yay another Potterhead! Of course Harry Potter was like a whole era for me. I am so due for a reread!

:) You’re in for the raffle, Fatima

  6. hmmm… hard question. my favorite young adult novel would probably be Angus, Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging. I love that it’s a british book and it reminds me of a younger bridget jones! Her adventures were always hilarious and it’s quite an easy read, being written in a diary format! =)

    1. Hi Ruby, I read the first few books but stopped after awhile. I did love the movie though!!! :) Hilarious!

You’re officially in the running for Mockingjay.

  7. My favorite YA book is Garth Nix’s Sabriel. I always liked fantasy and this one just made me realize that I really love this genre :) The other two books gets better but there was something about the first one that really made it special to me.
I’m not there rin but just wanted to add my 2 cents in. :) iniintriga mo ako sa series na ito so I should really start been following all yours Mockingjay posts

    1. I’m planning to read at least Sabriel this year!

Will count this as your entry. Like Aloi, in the event you win, you might have friends who can send it on to you. Or I could hold on to it until you get here :)

  8. My favorite YA book of all time? Um, it’s hard to choose just one, but I pick Looking for Alaska by John Green. The book inspired me to start searching for my own Great Perhaps, and made me think about some heavy questions about life and how I should live mine. :)

  9. Lois Lowry’s The Giver. Simply written but incredibly powerful. What I like best about it is that it isn’t exactly part of a series, though her next two books somewhat link together.

    I’m joining because I still don’t have a copy of Mockingjay! :)

  10. I love re-reading The Doomspell Trilogy by Cliff Mcnish. It’s magical, it’s heartwarming, it’s exciting! Have you read it?

I’ve read the Mockingjay e-book, but I can’t get hold of the hard copy because it’s always out-of-stock :(

    1. Hi Maan, I haven’t read this series yet but I’ve seen it at NBS bargain bins. Will pick them up next time I see them.

Your entry’s in, good luck! :)

  11. I love the Jessica Darling series by Megan Mcafferty cause the story in the series is something you can really relate to. You’ll laugh at some parts and you can totally imagine being in the situation. The books aren’t really that popular here in Manila. Have you read them? :)

    1. Hi Angelica, haven’t tried Megan Mcafferty either. Is this the same as the “sloppy firsts” series?
      Must hunt down these books.

Thanks for joining, this counts as your entry.

  12. I really really love the Anastasia series by Lois Lowry. Anastasia was funny, witty and highly imaginative. She was everything I wanted to be when I was that age. :)

    *crossing my fingers*

    1. Andrea!!! Haven’t seen you in a whole year! How are you?

I’m a big Anastasia fan too!!!

      Your entry’s counted, good luck!

  13. re: Megan Mcafferty

yup! its the the sloppy firsts series :) I think that there are around five books in the series. Sloppy Firsts, Second Helpings, Charmed Thirds , Fourth Comings and Perfect Fifths

    1. Never read Bobbsey Twins (was a Three Investigators and Nancy Drew fan), but I know a lot of people who did.

      Your entry’s in, Faith

  14. Favorite Young Adult book?
Siyempre wala nang tatalo sa Harry Potter. I’ve read harry potter a few times already. Actually I started when I was in elementary when a friend introduced me to him. Diba cool. Although among the harry potter series, my pinaka-favorite would be book1! Sorcerer’s stone, where it all began… which reminds me.. I’ll read it again during my sem break! harharhar

  15. Does “The Wizard of Oz” qualify in the YA genre? I know it’s a classic, but if it counts as a YA novel, I’d have to say that’s my favorite. I read it like eons ago (I’m already in my third decade so…) but no other book or novel has ever come close, as far as I’m concerned. Of course, the Harry Potter series is an entirely different class by itself, so there’s really no comparison. “The Wizard of Oz” is also the only book I’ve read sooo many times, my copy has gotten so dog-eared (and might probably need to be re-bound). I don’t know but every time I read about the story of Dorothy and Toto, the Tinman, the Lion and the Scarecrow, and the Yellow Brick Road, my imagination simply runs wild. It’s as though I’ve embarked on their journey with them. And I looove Glenda the Good. She’s my favorite. :D

    1. Of course it counts, Monique. I loved The Wizard of Oz too. And of course, reading this blog, you know I’m a big HP fan.

You’re officially in the running for this raffle :)

  16. WHOA this is such good news to us Blooey thanks so much for holding this raffle!

Now hmm.. what to choose what to choose… Oh crap i have a lot of favorite YA novels… can I name some? Of course Harry Potter tops the list, it’s probably the only series I’ve read more than 3 times each. And the only one that had me buying the books even exam weeks (why on earth do they always release it during exam week??). Harry Potter is special because I actually didn’t want to read it at first but after mom forced me to buy, I’d been reading a lot ever since! :D
I also love Tamora Pierce’s Alanna series, The Immortal series because of the knightly medieval flair. Artemis Fowl too… and are Little Women & Anne of Green Gables considered? haha!

  17. Ew a toughie! But my I guess my favorite YA Book before hunger games would be the Book Thief! I just Love that book! Markus Zusak is a genuis. Also really
sad! Then Hunger games, Two girls of Gettysbury, Secret life of a part time indian, Then Saving Juliet!~

    1. Hi Erin,

Markus Zusak is a favorite as well.

Do you have a Philippine address I can send the book to in the event that you win? Let me know so I can include you in the raffle :)

    1. I’m afraid I can only send locally (within the Philippines). International postage will cost almost as much as the book itself, and it kind of defeats the purpose of the giveaway.

  18. I owe my love for reading to the Sweet Valley enterprise. I’ve started with the kids and read all the other “levels” and particularly loved Senior Year, if only for the snippets of the characters’ thoughts in their ‘writing.’ I loved the SV sagas, too! :)

    1. Hi Maricar, unfortunately, I can’t count your entry as it logged in at 12:52, and my deadline was midnight. Hope you join next time I post a giveaway

  19. Update: Mika already has a copy of Mockingjay that’s one less entry in the draw.
