I meant to do this earlier, but September is always the busiest month in my year so this month’s posts have been sporadic at best…
Anyway, I have an extra copy of Mockingjay, the final book in the Hunger Games trilogy, a complimentary copy from Scholastic (because I co-moderated the discussion at the Mockingjay launch party), so I’m raffling it off.

I’m giving away a first edition, hardcover copy of Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins, an official Mockingjay bookmark, and two pieces of official Mockingjay tattoos (of the temporary, just-add-water kind).

The Mechanics:
1. The raffle is open to all readers with a Philippine mailing address.
2. To enter the raffle, just post in the comments section on the topic below:
Tell me about your favorite young adult (YA) novel.
3. Entries will be accepted until Friday, Sept. 24th, 12 midnight, Manila time.
4. One raffle entry per email address, but ip addresses will be screened as a safeguard against spam entries. I will reply to your entry in the comments section to validate it, and I reserve the right to weed out suspicious entries.
5. Winner will be drawn via Random.org. Winner will be announced here within three days after the end of the entry period. Random.org screenshots will accompany the announcement of the winner.
6. An email will also be sent to the winner to request their (Philippine) mailing address. Book will be packaged securely and sent via a local courier.

Judy Blume’s “Just as Long as We’re Together.” Not a lot of explanations needed, but if there was a book I’m glad I read when we were in Grade 4 or 5, that was it. That’s the Best Friends Forever book.

I read it last year as well although I really didn’t like it that much. Maybe the next books in the series are better, although I’m still hunting them down.

Sweet Valley HIgh series and University series! This tells the story of the Wakefield twins Elizabeth and Jessica. Their adventures & misadventures, their circle of friends and family too. I so loved the saga series, gave you deeper understanding of them and their families. ;)

Since I was a late bloomer, I’ll choose the Artemis Fowl or Cirque Du Freak series. The first one is about a boy genius that unravels the mysteries of the elemental beings. I am totally fascinated by fairies, mole, centaurs and the like. While Cirque Du Freak was in the vampire department. :)

Haven’t tried Artemis Fowl, but I do have book one in the series in my TBR, I should pick that up soon.

Oh this is a hard question to answer as this is my favorite genre (eventhough I’m already 27 hahaha). Anyway my favorite YA book of all time, or rather books, is the Harry Potter series. I have actually lost count of how many times I have reread the books and I always feel sad everytime I would get to the last page of Deathly Hallows.
Yay another Potterhead! Of course Harry Potter was like a whole era for me. I am so due for a reread!

hmmm… hard question. my favorite young adult novel would probably be Angus, Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging. I love that it’s a british book and it reminds me of a younger bridget jones! Her adventures were always hilarious and it’s quite an easy read, being written in a diary format! =)

My favorite YA book is Garth Nix’s Sabriel. I always liked fantasy and this one just made me realize that I really love this genre :) The other two books gets better but there was something about the first one that really made it special to me.

My favorite YA book of all time? Um, it’s hard to choose just one, but I pick Looking for Alaska by John Green. The book inspired me to start searching for my own Great Perhaps, and made me think about some heavy questions about life and how I should live mine. :)
I’ve been wanting to read John Green. Hard to find here in the Philippines though.

Lois Lowry’s The Giver. Simply written but incredibly powerful. What I like best about it is that it isn’t exactly part of a series, though her next two books somewhat link together.

I love the Jessica Darling series by Megan Mcafferty cause the story in the series is something you can really relate to. You’ll laugh at some parts and you can totally imagine being in the situation. The books aren’t really that popular here in Manila. Have you read them? :)

I really really love the Anastasia series by Lois Lowry. Anastasia was funny, witty and highly imaginative. She was everything I wanted to be when I was that age. :)

yup! its the the sloppy firsts series :) I think that there are around five books in the series. Sloppy Firsts, Second Helpings, Charmed Thirds , Fourth Comings and Perfect Fifths
I’ve been meaning to read those but they’re pretty hard to come by!
Bobsey Twins by Laura Lee Hope! The 2 set of twins,
Nan & Bert and Freddie & Flossie, were just too adorable.

Favorite Young Adult book?
Siyempre wala nang tatalo sa Harry Potter. I’ve read harry potter a few times already. Actually I started when I was in elementary when a friend introduced me to him. Diba cool. Although among the harry potter series, my pinaka-favorite would be book1! Sorcerer’s stone, where it all began… which reminds me.. I’ll read it again during my sem break! harharhar

Does “The Wizard of Oz” qualify in the YA genre? I know it’s a classic, but if it counts as a YA novel, I’d have to say that’s my favorite. I read it like eons ago (I’m already in my third decade so…) but no other book or novel has ever come close, as far as I’m concerned. Of course, the Harry Potter series is an entirely different class by itself, so there’s really no comparison. “The Wizard of Oz” is also the only book I’ve read sooo many times, my copy has gotten so dog-eared (and might probably need to be re-bound). I don’t know but every time I read about the story of Dorothy and Toto, the Tinman, the Lion and the Scarecrow, and the Yellow Brick Road, my imagination simply runs wild. It’s as though I’ve embarked on their journey with them. And I looove Glenda the Good. She’s my favorite. :D

Now hmm.. what to choose what to choose… Oh crap i have a lot of favorite YA novels… can I name some? Of course Harry Potter tops the list, it’s probably the only series I’ve read more than 3 times each. And the only one that had me buying the books even exam weeks (why on earth do they always release it during exam week??). Harry Potter is special because I actually didn’t want to read it at first but after mom forced me to buy, I’d been reading a lot ever since! :D
I also love Tamora Pierce’s Alanna series, The Immortal series because of the knightly medieval flair. Artemis Fowl too… and are Little Women & Anne of Green Gables considered? haha!

I’m afraid I can only send locally (within the Philippines). International postage will cost almost as much as the book itself, and it kind of defeats the purpose of the giveaway.
I owe my love for reading to the Sweet Valley enterprise. I’ve started with the kids and read all the other “levels” and particularly loved Senior Year, if only for the snippets of the characters’ thoughts in their ‘writing.’ I loved the SV sagas, too! :)
