Finally back online! Was out for most of the weekend; had to go out of town on Saturday for a family event, and then we celebrated my brother’s birthday yesterday.

Readathon Recap!
I can’t believe the first FFP 24 Hour Readathon is over. I’ve been attempting to catch up on lost sleep (no success there yet!), hence this post is a bit delayed — it’s the first time I ever readathoned for a full 24 hours, and it felt a lot longer than that to me!
I had a long list of books I planned to read, but I was only able to read five. I finished my halftime blog post slash eating break at around 3 am, and by that time I’d already finished Vespers Rising and The Insult and Curse Book. I lay down on Gege’s Thai futon (the kind with a mattress attached to a triangular pillow) and started reading Sweet Valley Confidential. It was unusually chilly (it was raining outside and dust allergies be darned I had to grab the sarong covering the boxes in one corner at Libreria to use as a blanket), and it was getting harder to stay awake, especially when people were starting to fall asleep. I think it was my violent reactions to SVC (hahaha, you’ll be reading about it in a later post) that kept me awake, and I finished that book at around half past six.
The first FFP 24 Hour Readathon!
Finally, it’s official! Flips Flipping Pages is hosting the first official 24 Hour Readathon event in the Philippines!
The 24 Hour Readathon is an international blogging event mounted in memory of Dewey, a blogger and a reader who started the event in October 2007. Dewey passed away in November 2008, and the 24-hour read-a-thon is continued by those who’ve helped Dewey organize the past read-a-thons, and hundreds of book bloggers in the world. Basically, the concept is to read as much as you can for 24 hours.
A bunch of us Flippers have been joining the 24 Hour Readathon for a couple of years now, and we thought about reading together in a single venue so we could encourage one another to go all the way around the clock. Hence it is now an official FFP event!
The back-up plan
Raaats, my internet at home has been down for three days. And in three days, I’ve finally finished the new Thursday Next novel (you’ll read the review soon enough), whipped up a batch of pesto that will probably tide me over until Easter (ahh, long story), made a lot of bookmarks (I had a lot of spare time), watched the quake coverage on CNN and NHK (oh, my heart breaks for Japan!), and finally watched a bunch of movies that I’ve been meaning to watch for months.
But not being able to blog makes me antsy, and I didn’t want a repeat of the stress I went through during that nasty plugin incident. I’m not sure when our internet service will get restored, seeing as my mom is getting our landline changed and it’s currently out of commission (sheesh, you never know how useful a landline phone is until it’s gone) until the new one gets set up.
