BookMoochers Pilipinas Summer Mixer

Last night was the much awaited summer mixer for BookMoochers Pilipinas, the local group for members of book trading site BookMooch. It was one of the muggiest days in this infernally hot summer, but even the heat couldn’t stop us from heading over to Triccie’s house for our get-together.

Present last night were me, Triccie, Patti, Gege, Czar, Marie, Cecille, Shy, Paolo, Patrick, and JoelG. We haven’t gotten together as a group since last November, and since a lot of members were celebrating their birthdays in April and May (Triccie, Marie, Czar, Cecille, and Fran) we decided a summer party was in order!

The BookMoochers Pilipinas are a fun-loving bunch; most of us are active in Flips Flipping Pages but we have our own set of activities for BM Pilipinas once in a while — mooch fiestas, bookstore warehouse raids, book hunting, white elephant swaps, and many more.

Despite the sweltering heat — it must have been 40 degrees last night! — we had a great time. We had a sumptuous dinner of birthday noodles, barbecue, crispy pata, ensaymada rolls, and Patti’s heavenly cookies, and ice cream popsicles.

We also had the traditional BookMooch jeopardy. This time I was assigned to prepare it, and Dianne helped me with the questions.

It was a pretty close fight, with Patti taking home the grand prize of P1000 worth of bookstore gift certificates, and the runners up (Cecille, Gege, Marie, and Joel) taking home fragrant incense kits (courtesy of Triccie). Quizmaster (me!) got a reward too — Triccie gifted me with a groovy red and silver lava lamp!

Hahaha, and then since it was too hot to do anything else (we even forgot to take photos), we ended up distributing pending mooches (including loot from Typhoon Pilipinas, a charity for our members affected by last year’s flooding), raiding Triccie’s private collection (books and bags she’s selling — I nabbed a Robert Sabuda Disney ABC), and with pockets considerably lighter, we ended up having a gaming session on our laptops while gabbing about local politics, show business, books, and whatnot.

While we missed the company of other BookMoochers who weren’t able to make it to the party, it was great hanging out with the BookMoochers again, and I can’t wait til the next BMP party!

    1. It was, although no one was in the mood for picture taking because we were all sticky from the heat! :D Hope you can join us next time, Iya!

  1. Huah! I terribly missed this. Excited pa naman ako. Sent Czar a message via FB mobile. Wrong timing na meeting. Kung di lang work-related yun.

The books and the bags…*sigh* and you guys of course.

  2. Awesome post. Let’s go book hunting again soon! I also can’t wait for the next get-together. I hope more BMers attend! :)

    1. Excited! Haha. I do hope we see Chloe, Iya, Rise, Fran, Honey and the other Pinoy BookMoochers next time

    1. Hey Aloi, you soooo have to let us know when you’re in the country so we can organize a book hunt!

  3. Gusto ko talaga maging bookmochers pero hirap mag send at maka recieve ng items dito sa Bulacan. Kaya looking forward talaga ko pag naka lipat na ko ng Makati.
