Bookish Birthday

When we were planning the Flips Flipping Pages outreach activity at the start of the year, I purposely chose January 28th as the date because I wanted to do something for my birthday as well. My wish was granted as we got the opportunity to spend a day with the kids of All Together in Dignity (ATD) Fourth World – Philippines in a reading activity at Museo Pambata.

So yesterday, I got to spend my birthday with the Flippers and 24 kids from ATD at the Museo Pambata Library! :)

I have a lot of great memories of Museo Pambata from my childhood, including performing in a play in Karapatan Hall for the royalty of Malaysia in fifth grade! It was great to be back after so many (let’s not count) years!

We had a whole bunch of activities lined up for the day:

face  painting — thank you to Flippers Ajie and Ella for painting faces with me!

bestseller: Pirate faces — I think I must’ve done at least 5 of these!

We had a coloring contest

an explosion of colors!

storytelling — that’s Charlot from the museum telling “Ang Pag-ibig ni Maryang Sinukuan”

Joko and Cecille asking questions from the book (and getting mobbed by kids)

we also played games — here’s Gege hosting “Arrange Yourselves” with Peter keeping score

Surprise hit: the “Bahay Baboy Bagyo” game

it’s an old game, but I don’t think I’ve ever played it with actual OINKING kids… until yesterday!

We also had bookmark-making!

The kids got to take them home…

… with books from Scholastic! A big thank you to Scholastic for the generous donation!

The kids also each got a copy of ArteSana’s Fun ART-ivity book!

new books = happy kids!

yay for books!

:) Squee!

and had a simple lunch of spaghetti and chicken

The kids were loaded down with more loot: school supplies and toys.

We also had a box of books collected from the Flippers for the ATD Library.

What fun!

not bad for our first organized outreach activity, eh?
Oh happy day!

Most definitely not our last outreach activity!

It was a truly awesome day with the Flippers and the ATD kids, and it was also a birthday to remember!

***
Thank you to everyone who made the day possible — Museo Pambata, ATD Philippines, Scholastic, Inner Wheel, and all the Flippers who joined us!

Thanks to Flippers Peter, Sana, and Rhett for the additional photos for this post :)
