Book lovers: Mark your calendars! (Special events at the MIBF)

840874_86751664

Five more days to go until the 30th Manila International Book Fair (MIBF), the biggest and longest-running book fair in the Philippines!

Set on Sept. 16-20, at the SMX Convention Center, Seashell Drive, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City, the 30th MIBF once again unites local and foreign publishers, wholesalers, retailers, book lovers and collectors, librarians, authors, publishers’ representatives, and every major player in the publishing industry in its continuing efforts to promote books and reading.

I’ve been marking off the special events I want to attend. I love how there’s always something for every sort of reader at the MIBF. Check out the special events schedule beyond the cut — those in bold are the events I’m interested in, although I probably won’t be able to attend all of them.

I’m also breaking out the recyclable bags for the MIBF (last year I busted two with the sheer number of books  I carted out!), although I think it’s really time I brought a wheelie bag with me this year so I won’t hurt my back like last year (hehehe).

Will probably be covering events throughout the five days of the book fair, so if you’re out there on any of the days, just holler so we can talk books!

16 thoughts on “Book lovers: Mark your calendars! (Special events at the MIBF)”

  1. I’ve been attending the MIBF since I was 11! Yet I don’t get to buy as many books as I would want because though in sale it’s still too pricey. I end up hoarding more books in a single trip to Booksale than I would in 3 days of MIBF. >pouts<
What do you do anyway that you end up with split bags with so many acquisitions? Which exhibitors should I visit where the price is almost the same as Booksale or with as varied a collection?

  2. @Iya – they look great! Although I’m really leaning more towards a wheelie bag this year, as I tend to hurt my back lugging bags around.

  3. @Kath – watch out for my entry on my favorite MIBF exhibitors. Maybe this weekend.

Will also post a scope-out entry on the first day of the MIBF.

  4. @Steddy- I have no idea as they’re not identified in the schedule, but I will ask the organizers if they have any more info about this.

  5. I never knew there’d be so many events. Well, it is my first time. Hehe. I didn’t know Goodwill bookstore is still alive. The Sunday events are great! I’ll check out Twilight just for the heck of it. And I’ll try to attend each day of the event. Haha! And you seem to like cosplays a lot blooey. ^_^

  6. @Patrick- Haha, I don’t cosplay (other than for HP) but they’re always fascinating to watch. Especially since the cosplay at MIBF is exclusively based on book characters.

  7. I was in Manila last week but too bad we had to go home Monday (this week) so I wasn’t able to experience the MIBF. :(
    Well, there’s always next year.
    Nice picture there, btw. ^_^
